It was the weekend after Thanksgiving, Christmas season was starting in full force. Downtown was beautiful and I was excited that it was time once again to sing at the Assembly Hall and South Visitors Center at Temple Square. I decided to take a quick pit stop with some other choir members before getting ready to sing. As I waited for my turn a young teenage girl ran into the bathroom. She went straight to the just emptied stall and started to repeatedly throw up. I quickly used the other stall and tried to hurry out, but this poor girl threw up many times while I was in this small bathroom with her. An older woman came in with her to help and comfort her. Turns out she had just thrown up while performing on stage at the Assembly Hall!!! What a terrible fate!
Fast forward two days later - a strange little cough began to start. I thought it was funny, because usually I have a sore throat before I get a cough. Then little aches began to spread throughout my body, and by nightfall a fever had come on. And suddenly the memory of that night came rushing back to me! It was the week of my birthday and according to the doctor I had swine flu! The terrible fate had hit me!
Ah, but it did not end there. The next weekend brought with it another sick girl, and I was reminded again of that night as Kierra threw up on the side of the road on the way to my dad's for our birthday party! Kierra tested positive for both A and B influenza, which means she could have had swine flu and seasonal flu at the same time!
A week later with Kierra finally on the mend I thought we were over the terrible fate. Little did I know the worst was still to come! The next weekend brought with it more throwing up from Ammon. Only he didn't throw up on the road or in the toilet, no he threw up all over my carpet several times! It was flu B for him, which meant he did not have swine flu. So did Kierra get A from me and B from school and then gave B to Ammon? Apparently not, as Kierra started throwing up again just four days after Ammon. With Jaiden also throwing up all over the carpet and Parker lying on the couch thinking he was going to die, the terrible fate had hit us with full force!
And the good news is, we were all better for Christmas!
